Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive, but

it does need to be consistent!
A common frustration I hear from counsellors and therapists is that their websites don’t appear on the first page of Google.
While reaching the top of Google’s search engine results page ("SERP") can be challenging, it’s far from impossible – provided you’re willing to invest regular time and effort.
To help you get started, I’ve compiled three quick SEO wins that you can implement on your website today:
SEO Quick Win #1: Optimise Your Page Titles and Meta Descriptions
Your page titles and meta descriptions are the first things people see on Google. Ensure they are clear, concise, and include relevant keywords (e.g., "Therapist for depression and anxiety in [Location]"). This helps search engines and users understand what your page is about and increases the likelihood of clicks.
SEO Quick Win #2: Use Alt Text for Images
Add descriptive alt text to all images on your website. Not only does this improve accessibility, but it also gives search engines more context about your content, which can boost your SEO. For example, instead of “image1.jpg,” use “Counsellor office therapy session.”
SEO Quick Win #3: Create Internal Links
Link to other relevant pages within your website. For example, if you have a blog post about mindfulness, link it to your services page if mindfulness is part of your therapy offering. This improves navigation for users and helps search engines better understand the structure of your site.
Another useful tip to improve your website is claiming your Google Business Profile. I previously explained how to do this. Implementing these steps can set you on the path to better visibility without overwhelming your schedule.
